HUT (Home Use Test)
Also known as: Home Use Test, In-Home Test, Consumer Home Test
Study where consumers test a product in their own home for several days or weeks under real usage conditions.
The Home Use Test (HUT) is a research methodology where selected consumers test a product in their own home during an extended period (3 days to 4 weeks), under real daily usage conditions.
Unlike the CLT (Central Location Test), the HUT allows: repeated product exposure (as would happen in real use), evaluation under natural preparation and usage conditions, feedback after multiple product experiences, and capture of the evolution of perception over time.
In food and beverages, HUT is standard for evaluating reformulations and new products. In personal care, cleaning, and home technology products, it allows evaluating sustained usage experience and long-term satisfaction.
Atlantia facilitates HUTs as part of its innovation research portfolio, with integrated quantitative and qualitative analysis.
